We bought a 250 year old farmhouse in 1999 in the heart of Burgundy and have been restoring it ever since. Situated in a tiny hamlet in a national park, Le Morvan, this 18th century farmhouse of massive hand-hewn stone blocks and beamed ceilings “a la francaise” overlooks the town of Autun, a site rich in Roman and Gallic history. The Morvan, a forested park of 432,425 acres, is full of lakes and trails for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding and cross-country skiing. Because it is so pristine, it is a haven for many species of mammals, birds, insects and reptiles that are now extinct elsewhere in Europe. The area is famous for wine, archeological digs and remains, and restaurants (closest is about 1 km. away). |

Le Mizieux is located 345 km from Paris, about 3 hours by car or 1 hour 20 by TGV (the “fast train”) to the nearest train stop of Le Creusot, 175 km from Lyon or 2 hours and 45 minutes by car, and 245 km from Geneva. All mentioned cities are convenient to fly into from the US. The climate is tempered by the Mediterranean and delightful year round, albeit snowy in winter.
The home is elegantly furnished with antiques. You will enjoy the quiet and privacy of your own yard and garden with a magnificent view of overlooking Autun in the Valley below. The farmhouse, in a hamlet, is on a narrow mountain road pleasant to walk. It will take you through a forest, where picking mushrooms is a popular activity, through to a river and waterfall. The house futures the famous low fire tiles, or "tomettes", of the region. For more information, also see our listing at http://www.vrbo.com/72015, or see our calendar of availability.
